Red Alert: Oppose Vacancy Tax in LA City

The LA City council just called a special meeting TOMORROW 6/24 at 10:00am to vote on the proposed $6,000/year tax on vacant units. We need our members to call in to the public comment section and OPPOSE ITEM 45 (19-0623):

Last week the City council voted to move forward on writing a Vacancy Tax Ordinance to appear on the November 3rd Ballot.

We need to get them to slow down and look at it. This item has been rushed through without stakeholder input, and even the Chief Legislative Analysts office has questions.

Let’s work together and STOP this!

Call during the council meeting TOMORROW 6/24 at 10:00am.

State your name, I’m a Realtor and I’m opposed to Item 45. Do not rush this item through.

That’s all you have to say, or you can add 1 or 2 things listed:

This won’t build new housing.
– You need to consider stakeholder input.
– Further study is needed.
– Other cities are considering delaying the implementation of new taxes, this is not the time for LA City to consider a new tax.
– The report doesn’t account for new developments which can take up to 12-18 months to occupy.
– Economic conditions are changing; there are a number of uncertainties.
